About Desi Bites

Where Every Recipe Tells a Story

“Rasoi vich pyar rale, tan hi swaad banda ae

roti simple hovay, par dil naal bandhi jandi ae.”

Welcome to Desi Bites a home for anyone who believes the best meals aren’t found in fancy restaurants, but in the everyday kitchens where recipes are passed down, tweaked, argued over, and perfected one generation at a time.

We’re not just another food blog. Desi Bites is a celebration of South Asian cooking in its most honest form real ingredients, real techniques, and real flavor, explained in a way that actually works when you try it at home.

How It All Started

Desi Bites began in a small kitchen, with a notebook full of handwritten recipes that had never been measured properly only ever cooked by feel. Andaza a pinch of this, a handful of that is how most of our grandmothers cooked. It’s beautiful, but it’s also nearly impossible to pass on to someone learning from scratch.

That gap is exactly why this blog exists. We took those andaza recipes and tested them again and again, writing down exact measurements, timings, and techniques, until a dish that once lived only in memory could be recreated by anyone, anywhere, with the same result every single time.

“Maa de hath di roti warga swaad, duniya vich kithe labhda ae

par jehri mehnat naal banawe, ohi is de nede pujda ae.”

What began as a personal project to preserve family recipes has grown into a space where thousands of home cooks now come to find dishes that actually taste like home.

What We Believe

Food should feel like home, wherever you are. Whether you’re cooking a weeknight daal in Karachi, a biryani in Birmingham, or nihari in New Jersey, the flavors of home shouldn’t be out of reach just because you’re far from it.

Cooking is a skill, not a mystery. We break down techniques how to properly bhuno a masala, how to layer a biryani, how to get that restaurant-style tarka  so the why behind each step makes sense, not just the “what.”

A good recipe should work the first time. Every dish on Desi Bites is cooked, adjusted, and cooked again before it’s ever published. No copy-pasted instructions, no untested guesses.

What You’ll Find Here

Who We Cook For

Desi Bites is for the beginner who’s never made a roti in their life, and for the confident home cook who just wants a reliable version of an old favorite. It’s for the diaspora kid trying to recreate their mother’s cooking from memory, and for anyone, anywhere in the world, who’s simply curious about South Asian flavors and wants to try them properly.

“Ik roti, ik pyar bhari gal, ohi tan asli dawat ae

baaki sab tay bas mez utte sajawat ae.”

No matter your starting point, our goal is the same: help you cook it right, and help you enjoy doing it.
